As a small business owner working in the beauty industry, whether you’re a lash or brow artist - or even a nail technician - Instagram is undoubtedly your most incredible marketing tool.
Instagram is a free social media platform that allows you to reach your ideal customers and interact with your existing client base, all from your mobile phone. We know that life as a lash or brow technician is super busy, but Instagram is the fastest way to get your name and your business out there, and making time to market yourself is key to growing your business! We’ve put together our 5 top Instagram tips for anyone looking to do so with that in mind.
1. CREATE YOURSELF A BUSINESS ACCOUNT
Once you’ve created your account (or when you’ve decided to take the plunge and convert your account!), go into your Instagram settings, and change your account to a Professional account. A business account will unlock many more features on your account that’ll allow you to push your brand further!
As a business account, you can add a contact button to your profile and set up a quick reply response to any inbound messages you may receive - so this makes sure you never miss any opportunity to book any potential clients.
It also gives you access to Instagram insights to see which of your content is performing best, based on the analytics it provides. You can see what content your followers love the most, and this will help you plan more of it to ensure you’re constantly engaging them!
Instagram business accounts also allow Post Boost features, allowing you to promote your content further. However, only business accounts can be used on third-party apps to auto-schedule and post your content. So if you want to plan and use another app to post your content for you automatically, a Business account is a must!
2. OPTIMISE YOUR PROFILE
It is also vital that you optimise your profile to ensure that you are easily findable and that your services are clear to your desired customer!
Make sure your username states who you are (or the name of your brand), and your bio outlines your services. For example, if you’re a lash artist who offers classic, volume and hybrid lashes - write that! If you’re a brow artist that offers henna and lamination, state that!
If you offer more services than you can write, direct them to your Instagram stories to see more, or even tell your audience to get in touch for further information.
Your profile should also clearly state where you are based, how to be contacted and how your customers can book.
All of the above not only makes it easier for clients to find you with the way that the Instagram algorithm works, but it also makes it that little bit easier for your customers to understand what you offer and where, and they’ll be a lot more likely to contact you for an appointment!
3. FIND, FOLLOW AND INTERACT WITH YOUR IDEAL CLIENTS
It’s also down to you to find your ideal clients. But, unfortunately, they won’t all come to you! So with this in mind, use the Instagram location tag feature to see who lives in your local area, follow those accounts and interact with their content.
You can even find more clients through your existing client’s profiles, too - after all, they’ll be the same target market! So give them a like, a comment, or even a message to let them know about your services.
If you interact with other account’s content, they’re much more likely to interact with yours. So we suggest taking a little bit of time out of your day and dedicate it to scrolling through your Instagram and engaging with other people this way.
All this is the key to building a relationship with potential clients and builds trust and long-lasting loyalty. And who doesn’t love stable, loyal clients?!
4. BE CONSISTENT
It’s all essential to be consistent. The best practice is to post on Instagram every day and have Instagram story content live at all times. And we know how busy life can be, so this is why the auto-posting apps we mentioned earlier are great!
Think of it this way, even if you have just one client a day, this is your daily post! Take a picture of the lash set you’ve just created for them, and post it. And if you can get some before and after photos, video footage of your salon or workspace that day for Instagram stories, even better! Our clients love to see what you’re doing, what your work looks like, and this is the best way to show.

Consistency is key to growing your brand and future. You will thank me for it!
Marketing yourself isn’t always easy, but it’s a must when it comes to growing your business. For example, suppose you can take an hour out of your day to dedicate it to your Instagram page. If you can take some time off on a Sunday afternoon to get scheduled for the week, then do that instead.
Think of a way that works for you, and go for it. Nobody is perfect, but there’s perfection in trying your best.
Try implementing all these four tips that we’ve suggested, and let us know how you get on! And if you want more, then make sure to let us know!
